Unlimited Hosting Policy
This policy clarifies what 'unlimited' means in the context of shared hosting and the fair use guidelines that apply to all customers.
Overview
This Unlimited Hosting Policy explains how "unlimited" resources are defined and applied by Rainbow Web Solutions ("HostRainbow").
This policy applies to all shared hosting services including cPanel Hosting, DirectAdmin Hosting, Reseller Hosting, and any other plan that advertises unlimited storage, bandwidth, or similar resources.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure fair resource usage across our shared hosting infrastructure and to maintain consistent, stable performance for all customers.
What 'Unlimited' Means
When HostRainbow offers "Unlimited" disk space, bandwidth, or websites, it means we do not impose fixed numerical caps on those specific resources during the normal operation of a legitimate website.
Customers may use storage and bandwidth as needed to serve their website visitors, provided the usage reflects typical personal or business website activity.
Unlimited is designed to remove the anxiety of hitting artificial limits — not to provide unrestricted access to server resources. All websites share an underlying server, and all customers are expected to use their fair share.
What 'Unlimited' Does Not Mean
"Unlimited" does not mean access to unlimited server CPU, RAM, disk I/O, or network throughput.
Our shared servers are engineered to host hundreds of websites simultaneously. This environment works well for typical websites — it is not designed for:
- High-traffic enterprise applications with sustained concurrent load
- Streaming media platforms or video delivery services
- Large-scale file hosting or download services
- Applications better suited to VPS or Dedicated Server infrastructure
If a single website consistently consumes an excessive share of server resources — even within a plan marketed as "unlimited" — HostRainbow reserves the right to request optimisation or an upgrade to a more appropriate hosting solution.
Storage Usage Policy
Disk space on shared hosting plans is intended for hosting active website files including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP scripts, images, and databases necessary for the operation of your website.
The following uses of storage are not permitted on shared hosting accounts:
- Video libraries or media archives not embedded within a website
- Personal or business file storage systems
- Backup storage for other servers or systems
- Software repositories, binary distributions, or installer archives
- Game files, ROM files, or large executable files
- Peer-to-peer file sharing content
Accounts found using hosting primarily as a storage or content delivery service may be suspended. Legitimate websites with growing storage needs are encouraged to contact our team to discuss appropriate solutions.
Database Size Guidelines
Customers may create multiple databases within their hosting accounts as required for their websites.
To protect server performance for all customers, individual databases should not exceed 1 GB in size. Databases larger than this threshold can negatively impact MySQL performance server-wide, particularly during backup operations or complex queries.
If your database exceeds this guideline, HostRainbow may request that you optimise the database, archive historical data, or migrate to a VPS plan with dedicated MySQL resources.
For database-intensive applications such as high-traffic WooCommerce stores or large CRMs, we recommend considering a VPS plan from the outset.
Bandwidth and Traffic
HostRainbow does not impose fixed monthly bandwidth caps on shared hosting plans. Websites may receive and transmit traffic as needed to serve their visitors.
However, if a website generates sustained traffic volumes that significantly impact server performance or network capacity — particularly through large file downloads, media streaming, or abnormally high concurrent connections — HostRainbow reserves the right to:
- Temporarily throttle bandwidth on the affected account
- Request that high-bandwidth assets be served via a CDN
- Require an upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated Server plan
We will always attempt to contact the customer before taking action wherever possible.
Email Storage Limits
To maintain reliable email delivery and server performance for all customers, the following guidelines apply to email storage on shared hosting plans:
- Individual mailbox size should not exceed 5 GB
- Total combined email storage per domain should not exceed 50 GB
Accounts approaching or exceeding these limits may receive a notification to archive, download, or reduce mailbox storage. Customers with large email storage requirements are encouraged to use a dedicated email hosting service or upgrade to a plan with higher limits.
Resource Usage Thresholds
The following resource usage limits are enforced on all shared hosting accounts to protect the stability of the shared environment:
- CPU: usage must not exceed 20–25% of a single CPU core for more than 90 consecutive seconds
- MySQL: individual queries must not run longer than 30 seconds
- Cron Jobs: may not be scheduled more frequently than once every 15 minutes
- Concurrent connections: limited based on your plan's entry process allocation
- Disk I/O: excessive read/write operations may trigger temporary throttling
Activities that can trigger high resource usage include:
- Unoptimised WordPress plugins or themes making excessive database calls
- PHP scripts with infinite loops or memory leaks
- Automated crawlers or import scripts run via cron
- Malicious code or compromised files generating unexpected traffic
HostRainbow uses CloudLinux OS with LVE (Lightweight Virtual Environment) to enforce these limits automatically and fairly across all accounts.
Reseller Hosting Account Limits
Reseller Hosting plans with unlimited account creation are subject to a practical limit of 400 cPanel accounts per reseller.
If the number of cPanel accounts on a single reseller plan exceeds this threshold, additional accounts may incur a per-account fee, or the reseller may be required to upgrade to a higher-tier reseller plan.
This limit exists to ensure that resellers managing large client portfolios do so on infrastructure appropriately sized for that workload.
Enforcement and Escalation
HostRainbow reserves the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate this Unlimited Hosting Policy.
Enforcement typically follows this process:
- First contact: the customer is notified of the issue and given a reasonable timeframe to resolve it (typically 48–72 hours for non-critical issues)
- If unresolved: the account may be temporarily suspended until the issue is corrected or the customer upgrades
- Repeated violations: may result in permanent account termination
We understand that resource spikes can happen unexpectedly — we will always try to work with customers to find a suitable resolution rather than take unilateral action.
Policy Updates
This Unlimited Hosting Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in our infrastructure, service offerings, or applicable law.
Any changes will be published on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Continued use of our services after the effective date of any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
If you have questions about what is or is not permitted under this policy, please contact our support team before taking actions that may violate these guidelines.
